Another story of bravery that made rounds on the internet during the communal violence in 2022 in Jalalpur is the story of a 17-year-old, Asim.
A Hindutva mob surrounded his house, with some members managing to climb onto the roof. In a desperate effort to protect his mother and sister from the rioters, Asim took drastic action—grabbing hold of two attackers and leaping from the roof with them.
In the viral video, injured Asim narrated the incident, saying, “I climbed up to protect my family, but they didn’t stop—there were 10 of them.”
On getting cognizance of the incident, the Miles2Smile team visited Asim.
In a conversation with him, Asim’s family further revealed that his uncle’s medical shop was burned down during the riots, allegedly by the Hindutva mob, leaving him without a source of income.
Asim was also grappling with the financial burden of his medical treatment, adding to the adversities his family was already facing.
To ease the family’s burden, Miles2Smile promised financial assistance for Asim’s medical expenses and his uncle’s medical store.
To fulfill our promise, we launched a fundraising campaign, and within a few days, we successfully raised the necessary amount.
We transferred the funds to Asim’s family, alleviating the burden of his medical expenses. Additionally, his uncle experienced a renewed sense of joy with the reopening of his store.
