Adding Fun to Learning

The Rohingya crisis has forced millions of Rohingya refugees to flee their homes and seek refuge in neighboring countries, including India. Among them, a significant portion are children who have been deprived of their basic rights, including education.

As education is critical for the development of a child, it is essential to provide access to quality education to Rohingya children to give them hope for a better future.

Miles2Smile foundation has been actively supporting about a thousand Rohingya children living in camps in Nuh, Haryana by running several projects. Of them, the most successful project is the “Fatima-al-fihri,” learning center, which aims to provide Rohingya children with a fun & interactive learning experience while promoting education and development.

These centers provide a safe and conducive learning environment for Rohingya children, allowing them to receive an education that they would not have access to otherwise.

The learning center initiative is an innovative education initiative designed to engage Rohingya children in the learning process while making it fun and enjoyable. We use various tools and techniques to promote learning among these children, such as games, songs, interactive activities, and storytelling. We have also incorporated the use of technology, such as tablets and laptops, to enhance the learning experience further.

The educational project of Miles2Smile in the Rohingya camp is managing 3 such centers & two Madarsas namely Taleem-ul-Quran & Imam-ul-Bukhari, under the ambitious Shaagird mission. The centers are being run by trained teachers and volunteers who work with the children in small groups, ensuring that each child receives individualized attention and support.

The teachers use a range of teaching techniques, including visual aids, music, and games, to make learning fun and engaging. Additionally, the Learning centre’s curriculum has been designed to meet the specific needs of Rohingya children, taking into account their cultural and social backgrounds. It includes subjects such as language, math, science, and social studies, as well as life skills, such as hygiene and health education.

Meanwhile, we also prioritize the mental health and well-being of the children by psychosocial support, and care, and  help children in many ways cope with the stress and trauma they have experienced.

Miles2Smile’s learning center initiative is a significant step towards addressing the challenges of education in refugee camps and empowering children to break the cycle of poverty and displacement.

The idea behind this play based learning model is that we believe by making education engaging and enjoyable, children are more likely to be motivated to learn, retain information, and develop a love for learning that can last a lifetime.
