Aasiya, a resilient 74-year-old woman, experienced a sudden upheaval in her life when her family’s home was mercilessly demolished during clashes stemming from a procession led by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal in Nuh, Haryana.
Aasiya’s home had been a cozy place for her family for 30 years. It wasn’t a big fancy house, but it was filled with love and the laughter of 15 family members. Aasiya, like the head of the family, loved every moment they spent there. Her husband and sons were truck drivers who often went on long trips, but when they returned, the house would come alive with their stories and shared meals.
What made it even sadder was that Aasiya’s husband and sons were far away working when this happened. They desperately wanted to return to comfort Aasiya, but they couldn’t because of the situation.
Aasiya was left with nothing but the memories of her home. She had to sleep outside with no roof over her head, which was really tough.
But even in the midst of this sadness, Aasiya remained strong. She looked at what was left of her house with a determined face. She kept telling herself, “Whenever God takes something away, He gives something better.” This showed how strong her faith and spirit were.
The Miles2 Smile team visited her multiple times in the past week, arranged rations & other essentials, and made a donation appeal.
We successfully raised a total of 2.56 lakhs for Aasiya and her family to rebuild their lives and restore their sense of security.
This money didn’t erase all the sadness, but it gave Aasiya and her family a chance to start again. They could use it to build a new home and feel safe once more. Even in really tough times, Aasiya’s strength and the kindness of these strangers showed that there’s still hope and goodness in the world.
