When the fresh wave of summer swept through Chhattisgarh in June 2024, representing warmth, growth, and a new beginning, when the country was enjoying the vibrant hues of summer skies, the Muslim diaspora was reeling again. A new mob lynching news grab the top headlines, Guddu Khan (35) Saddam Qureshi (23) and Chand Miya Khan (23) were brutally killed.
The trio were reportedly pursued by a group of individuals, allegedly belonging to cow vigilantes, on suspicion of smuggling cattle. According to the reports, the mob chased the trio for approximately 54 kilometers, beaten, thrashed, assaulted, and eventually killed them.
The screams of Guddu’s kids pierced through the hearts of humanity; their ocean of tears gave shudders to the society. Guddu’s four kids (aged 10, 8, 6, and 2) lost a supportive father, his wife lost a loving husband, a mother lost a kind son and the family lost the only source of income.
A few months after the incident, we visited the devastated family to hear their heart wrenching stories.”He video called with the children in the afternoon… nothing was supposed to happen to him… he was killed” Guddu’s mother said, with tears rolling down her cheeks.
“I don’t know where all he was beaten… his entire leg was injured,” she added.
Guddu’s mother paused for a while and then continued, “All his ribs were broken… his arm was twisted and broken.”
Guddu’s mother seemed devastated and asked us to help the family. “If we could manage to arrange food and water for some children, it would be a huge help… but with Guddu gone, even food and water are no longer available,” she said.
Are we even humans if we cannot extend a helping hand? The question circled in our minds. Miles2Smile decided to answer this question and support the devastated family in all possible ways.
We established a fundraising appeal to help the family of Guddu, and fortunately, we were able to arrange enough funds to aid the family.
To provide a decent livelihood for Guddu’s family, we have assisted Guddu’s brother-in-law in reopening and restocking his garment shop in Jammu, ensuring a fair monthly income for Guddu’s wife.
The shop, fully loaded with garments and cosmetic supplies is a beacon of hope for the family.
