A quest for better livelihood is what drives many migrants to the cities. Siphat was no different. Along with his family, Siphat traveled far from a remote village to Sakras in Haryana, in search of a better life.
Unfortunately, the cost of living in cities is high, especially renting a house. Failing to find a suitable job, With meager cash reserves and no affordable shelter in sight, Siphat found himself in a far worse situation than he had left behind.
Finding a suitable job was a full-time job in itself. Siphat , who toiled for months, looking for dignified work, soon found a job as a truck driver. Once he had saved enough money, he moved his family into a small mud residence in the hills of Aravali.
Just when it seemed that the tide was turning in their favor, an unexpected tragedy left his family once again in a state of despair. Siphat’s house was among the properties that got demolished following Nuh violence on July 31.
Working as a truck driver he earned enough money to sustain his family but could not save much to rebuild his demolished property though he had purchased land but had no money to build a house. Miles2Smile intervened and constructed a house for Siphat and his family of five, who now live there.
To add to their misery, the family lost a daughter to sickness, leaving them with only one daughter, Aatika, and two sons, the elder being Qadir.”
After the demolition, thirteen-year-old Qadir had to pause his education for a year and begin working at a shop near his house. When the Miles2Smile team met him, we couldn’t help but worry about his education, prompting us to sponsor it.
To brighten his smile, we provided him with an A1 cycle. “I had always wanted a Krish Cycle, and I got one,” said Qadir, who is preparing to appear in his 8th Standard examination.
Currently, the family has a roof over their heads; however, their miseries persist. While Siphat drives a truck for family’s survival, he often struggles with depression, thus having an enduring impact on his family.
While their miseries cannot be completely eradicated, Miles2Smile has committed to supporting them by providing all necessary assistance, including food and medical aid.
