Restoring Kallu miyyan’s  mattress shop : Miles2Smile

Kallu Miyyan, 75 years old, hails from the Amroh district of Moradabad. He was left anguished as his mattress shop was engulfed in flames on a Tuesday afternoon, in plain view.

After the violence in Nuh, Haryana, its flames reached Gurugram. Countless innocent homes and shops here were vandalized and set ablaze.

Kallu Miyyan’s shop in Badshahpur Sector 66 was set on fire by the rioters on August 1st. It was from this shop that Kallu Miyan earned his livelihood.

After the agony of the riots, all they had were tears to shed.

Kallu’s shop is one of the seven burnt Muslim shops from sector 66 of Gurugram that were targeted, looted, and reduced to ashes during the violent events that unfolded. His shop selling mattresses and coolers was the sole source of his income. He faced a loss of 3 lakh rupees.

The Miles2Smile team contacted Kallu Miyyan and talked to him regarding the whole incident, “I had shut down my shop as the police instructed us to close our shops after violence was reported in Nuh. Suddenly, a mob of nearly 15-20 people on bikes with petrol bottles in their hands stopped at my shop and burnt it in front of my eyes. I ran away and tried to hide. After they left, police reached the spot and doused the fire. This shop was my only source of income. Damage of nearly 3 lakhs has taken place and now I have no means to earn. The police personnel later asked me to stay indoors. But who is responsible for this loss? I have lost everything I owned,” said Kallu Miyyan, a shopkeeper in Gurugram’s Ramgarh.

The Miles2smile Foundation aimed to rebuild Kallu’s shop and empower him to reclaim his livelihood and sense of security. Your contributions of 2.64 lakhs played a vital role in providing Kallu with the means to start anew.
